Ideas for making mat from yoga mat

So I purchased a yogamat for $2 and its close to 1/4" thickness. What are some ideas youd have to make your own gold mat.
dealing with fine gold should I cut drop riffles in to the mat or should I cut strips off and make extended riffles?
