Identification help

[TN/SC]

Help in identification of this item, found in known civil war camp. Nickel for size, machined slot for some purpose. I'm guessing some kinda weapon sight.

My first thought was a nib. That's the pointed tip of an old ink pen or according to the dictionary almost any pointed end piece.

Put it on a white background and take a few more pictures from different angles.
Front, back, sides and ends.
Try to get them well focused.
