That's the one thing that I've always loved about this hobby. The aspect of
"HUH!? Now how did THAT get HERE!?! " LOL

Had a couple hours to walk today and I chose a park where I KNOW it has been hit
and hard! (I know, cuz I did a lot of the hitting myself! ;) )

This park is a fave of mine because it has such a wide diversity of history. I've found everything from
A wooden crucifix to a large key spill, to large cents to 14kt gold bracelets here. (That's right, the bracelet I showed recently.)

Every time I go there, it ALWAYS gives me at least a couple items that just plain makes me smile.

Today was no different:

They burnt the whole wheat. :dontknow:

This piece was really a fun piece to find!
Just a handle but I would love to hear what
it might could tell us about it's history.

It's about 5 inches long, a 1/4 inch thick, non-magnetic
and silver plated.

In the field I knew it was silver plated but I thought
this said Atlantic Cast Line. I thought maybe it was just
some cast flatware. But it felt so solid, so heavy!
The thing was buried over a foot down! (Good job, ATP!! LOL )

With the little research I did I now know it actually says,
"Atlantic Coast Line". I know even less about silverware
than I do about finding a gold coin. ;)

But, I know this is an interesting find!
Just wish I knew more about exactly what it was and
where it's been. And, how it came to rest where it was found.

Then! On top of all this, one of my favorite
scenarios unfolded!

Just never gets old! Ya know?

Thanks for peeking!

Hmmmm....I found ACL flatware on EBay, but the mark is just the 3 initials. Says it was a popular rail line from around 1900 till '67, I believe? Silver is always good, especially in unexpected places!

Yeah, rather a strange utensil handle. I dunno but it seems strangely heavy and large for a
normal eating utensil. Let alone being silver plated.

Thanks!

Nice, the sweet surprise of silver!

Maybe the knife is part of a serving set and would have been heavier.
I need to up grade my reading glasses, I thought it said Titanic! Lol!

A foot down is good depth, wonder what else settled down that far?

Don't feel bad. I thought it said Atlantic Cast Line. I figured it was just a line of cast
flatware at first. Wasn't til I did a bit of research that I found what it said.

And, yeah, a foot down might not be a good indicator, normally. But, I know this place pretty well.
The ground in the area where this was found gives strong indications of age. It's in the middle of a current sports
field. But, from around the same area and depth, over time, I've found colonial buttons, horseshoes, old bling, various
iron items and even an 180? large cent.

The ground in this spot in the middle of the park seems to be some very original dirt. Other people are looking for
virgin territories and here I've found one. Right in the middle of a sports field. LOL

The utensil really did surprise me though. It was a strange sort of 80-iron-80 hit so maybe I just passed over it a
few times. Little did I know that the ATP was trying to tell me BOTH were down there! In the same target! :)

The first thing I thought of was a large wedding type knife.

The silver dime? ALWAYS a delight and welcome surprise. Not that it was out of place. I've also found one of my Walking Liberty Halves
there. One of those parks that has a whole gamut of history possibilities.

:)

It's funny how the best spots are right out in the open, surrounded by the ordinary. I love old dirt it's full of surprises.

The sports field I kept pulling quarters from is where I also got the Rosie, and the musket ball! My time portal!
