-- a real pirates chest that does indeed exist for sure matey ---luis aury's $60,000 in 1817 era silver paid to him by william bowden from georgia for 95 slaves that bowden later tried to "smuggle" into georgia--- when he was caught -- bowden protested saying he was going to west florida with "his" slaves that he bought from aury in fernadina florida for $60,000 in silver --he had a "legal" bill of sale showing the "amount" (these facts are in old georgia court records of the day)--- since florida was still offically "spanish" land at the time --- aury took over fernandina in Oct of 1817 and set up shop selling all manner of boot leg swag and allowing other pirates do sell stolen spanish goods for a cut of the action -- the set up did not last long however --- american slave merchants and big time merchants in georgia who's bussiness was hurt but the "fire sale" prices of aury demanded swift action -- the us govt sent a fleet to "spanish" fernandina taking over the island and arresting aury in dec of 1817 (he held the island a mere two months)--they held him 2 months (dec of 1817 and jan of 1818 ) and released him broke told never to return on pain of death-- he never was able to return to the island -- somewhere on amelia island is a chest that has the $60,000 in silver --since he did not get to take it with him and was never allowed to return to claim it - (he died 3 years later in 1821 after breaking his neck being thrown from a horse) it is reported that he was captured on the southern end of the island -- Ivan
