All offered are good choices. However, I'm going with the MXT as being the most versatile. I bought one in June and have been very pleased with it. Strongly recommend adding either the 4X6 or 5.3 coil as they are awesome in trashy areas. Same goes for the M6 if you should go that route. If you never expect to use it prospecting, the M6 may be all the detector you need, especially with the addition of the above mentioned coils. Just my two bits.

I'd see about buying 2 Back-up
Sovereign XS-2 's

SORRY.

But I would ;)
So would I, (will probobly get rid of the explorer)

The Explorer is Super Sweet on deep Silver,
But I just like Turn on & Go, without
wondering "What would happen
if I tweak This ? & what would happen
if I didn't Tweak this ? Etc." :P

Besides it's not so Much What you buy,
It's how much you know about
what you own.

MXT all the way!!!

That Garrett screen pic posted by Hot Texas is very nice. I would love to see a large quality picture of all the different metal detectors. Nevertheless, the MXT is the way to go. I have been using one for a couple of years now, and I haven’t out grown it. It provids as much information about the target as any other md I have seen, and it’s easy to use.

Gotta say, I love my cortez. It ran me about $725, and I'm pretty sure it could keep up with many of the real high-end machines.

Well I'll throw my hat in the ring. I just got and Explorer II for $600 used. Best money I have spent so far. Found 4 silvers the first real hunt out with it.

Check out http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,103601.msg762075.html#msg762075

If you haven't yet to see what I found.

Good luck. No matter what you buy take the time to learn it and it will serve you well. As far I can tell EVERY company makes good machines.
