I’ll let the masters decide if it’s a “Banner” find.

I’ve been on this site since day one of my career searching for only one silver. I say only one, because the son of our neighbor (who got me into detecting) has always said good luck! After multiple rings, clad coins, a token, nails, a few wheaties and other oddball finds, I finally stumbled across this dandy. Now I just need to figure out how to clean it. It’s the oldest coin I’ve come across in my almost one year into detecting. Thanks for leaving it behind LT! Your father is looking down at both of us grinning ear to ear on this one!!

Here's a tip for the future. when you mention the word banner it greatly decreases any chance of getting one.

I do believe for banner you need to be an active member for more than 6 months. Too bad it's a copy. Keep it up. A year is nothing in this hobby. Many members have decades swinging the coil here.

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Welcome to Tnet.

It’s customary to start your own thread if you have something you want identified, rather than piggy-back onto someone else’s thread… unless what you have is related to the discussion. Never mind. You’ll know next time.

Maybe you could post it again as a new thread and also show the other side? If you do that, it would also be helpful to others and avoid unnecessary duplication if you quoted what I say below.

What you have seems to be some kind of souvenir medallion relating to the foundation of the city of León in Spain.

Note at the left it says “Legio VII Gemina”, which was a Roman Legion raised in Hispania by the general Galba as part of the rebellion against the emperor Nero. There had been a military encampment of “Legio VI Victrix” since around 29 BC where the modern city of León stands in what is now Spain. It was originally just known as “Legio”. After Legio VII Gemina was raised in AD 68 it was also deployed to the area and consolidated with the existing encampment to become a definitive settlement from around AD 74. The city nevertheless regards its foundation as AD 68 when Legio VII was raised and deployed to the area. So the date of 1968 on your medallion was the city’s 19th centenary (XIX Centenario).

The other places on the map are various parts of the Roman empire at the time, with their Roman names in Latin.

EDIT: My post is now redundant as a result of the Mods moving the post I quoted to to a new thread here:
