Hey all! Here are several pieces that have been found in one of the creeks I frequent in the past five years. We'd appreciate any help in identifying some of these tools and points. Thanks! Look up side notch and corner notch points for you state and you will get an idea of the age on them.

Hi BG , can't help with the i.d . , but great finds and probably a lot of age as well . congrats . cheers Mick

Welcome! Those are good solid finds. It'll help if you do what was suggested above- to check out your local (Ill) shapes for better info. Good luck and Happy Hunting! Yakker

The first photo looks to have two grooved hardstone axe heads..two hardstone Celts.. a couple flaked hoes or adze tools at least one blade or perform.. a size reference would be great. That is a very nice array of points as well.
You look to have. early archaic, middle archaic, and woodland artifacts.

Why is there a X on one of the ax heads?

My buddy thought it would be a good idea to mark it so he would remember where he found it. Turns out that it wasn't such a good idea!

Check this piece out I found today in the same creek. It looks like a triangular arrowhead but I'm not positive. What do you think?

Is it unifacial?
... alot of people mark stone artifacts..in a not so blatant manner as to deface the piece.. not porous ones though.
On a point all that's necessary is a little clear nail Polish then mark on that.. so it can easily be removed.

I think you have a little triangle flake scraper. I find them from about the size of yours to the size of the palm of my hand. Some of them are serrated along the edges. The marking of artifacts is a common practice. I did it for a little while, and it grew old fast. What is strange is having to mark an archaic grooved axe. I have found a couple and can take you to the exact spot in which it lay for thousands of years. One that forgets where they found something that nice must have one heck of a collection.

Yeah scraper but still a nice find. On the marking you can use some acetone on a q-tip to remove the mark. Then wipe it off if you used a pen to mark it. I usually just keep all the finds together from each spot and then label the whole container they are in. I then take a pic of each piece and put it in a file from each spot on my computer so I have a pic of them and it is organized. Then if I go back I can view the artifacts I have found in that spot and know what to look for on my return. I also use Google Earth to mark the spot where I have found artifacts. That way I dont waste time going back over the same spots for hours finding nothing. One time I walked for 3 hours finding nothing then I found the rite spot and the hunt was on. Good Luck, rock
