Tesoro brothers!
I'm looking for someone who owns a Imax or owned and knows them in and out.
I would like to set the machine up for gold only and possibly quarters/silver bands.
If it's possible I'd like to set the machine to detect only nickel area and smaller targets. If I can get quarters great, I'd like to cherry pick just low range gold.
I eventually dig all targets but if I can dial this in at steel pull tabs from the 70's and down I'd be in heaven. Thanks Thanks, PS my phone is acting up I apologize in advance for any typos

I hate to tell you but that's impossible! About the best you can do is set upper disc above zinc and a notch for nickel range. You will miss a certain percentage of gold, but to dig all gold you have to dig everything above iron. Gold can range from foil up to zinc depending on its alloys.

Fletch.. Is right there is no way to set your detector up like that ………. If any detector company made a detector like that which they can not …. It would more than less cost you $10,000.00 or more ….. The reason they can not make a detector like you want …

Even with the ctx, probably the best VDI machine made and I owned one for about a year, you still have to dig foil and tabs to get the gold. Many class rings hit exactly where a zinc penny hits on the ctx also. Basically dig all "round" repeatable signals above iron if you want the gold. Also every necklace or bracelet I've ever dug where pretty crappy signals from one direction but repeatable enough to dig from another direction.

If you don't dig pull tabs you likely won't dig gold. Get a machine with notchable disc if you wish to cherry pick and dont mind missing good targets due to masking. If it was easy, we would all be wearing gold rings, lol.

This is a really cool feature of this detector. Change the tone to get what your looking for! Why don't they still make these new? I need to nab a used one, when i get the extra cash!

There is a problem known as "masking", in which the desired target sometimes gets 'notched' or 'disc'ed' out along with the trash. That is why we all must dig some trash with the treasure, & why I hunt in all metal so I can hear all the tones (good & bad) & trust my EARS to do the notching (discing). Many detectors have notch-able disc, even the $200 F2. The problem is, they really are only accurate in a very limited sense. If you TRUST the disc, you end up missing good targets.

I don't believe nothing was notched out in the second video, just the tones were changed so he had a better clue of what the target was.

Have you ever used one of these? I may have miss read the video? But I think this is a feature I have not seen on other detectors! He was in disc mode. But it was set on min. So I don't think he was notching anything out. My understanding (and I maybe wrong) with the disc in min and adjusting the notch width only changes the sound and didn't notch anything out?

Ok, that may be true & I have not owned a Golden, but generally if you disc or notch something you stand a higher chance of missing good stuff with bad.

OK, I found it, I guess Ill use a little less common knowledge or so I thought and use words like "range" "low" "high" etc. Don't be so insecure about owning Tesoros guys. Since I have to be a little more specific/laymen Tesoro stopped making the Golden Umax, the machine I got was used, it did not come with a instruction manual on setting it up. Im gonna share a little now and if this video don't show the Golden Umax "ID'ing Gold" its about the closest you can get. Im only concerned with the smaller stuff because I do very well with larger jewelry already.
For someone with a manual or knowledge of the machine they can understand the settings no problem, however I don't have a manual. I appreciate the "capt obvious" cool guys Me and some others got good laughs. This post should go in "best of"
I imagine some guy on a hillside digging half pound gold nuggets thinking to himself "I shoulda just done this years ago" Im still chuckling.

I see woodnack posted the video also. I had not read the post after the first couple replies. So, is there a way to notch this to the low end?

Oops, when I say "notch to the low end" I'm referring to smaller than Zink range gold. I think I'm gonna have to just get in the treasure and trash box and start tuning.

I was excited about Michael's vids as well. Until I realized I could not duplicate them with my machine. I don't trust videos to guage a detector's performance.

Atomicscott,
I thought you didn't own a golden Umax?? Your post are confusing to me. If you don't own one then you can't duplicate it. This is a unique feature of the Golden umax from what have seen.
