You can do much with a cheap 23MP DSLR and an old fully manual prime lens.
These shots were taken with a Nikon D7200 and Nikkor 105mm f2.8 macro (Nikon calls it micro).

Anywho, just experimenting.

Fun. I've played with photographing coins too. Angle of lighting, number of lights, background etc. One trick is to put the coin on a white, translucent background with lighting underneath the background. Your trial photos are good.

Macro images are cool to capture. I try casing a light across the coin surface when looking for detail to pop.
