This year, many farmers were very angry that many people steal the copper stuff from the farms. Even somebody can steal the A/C in the backyard of many houses. Even, they can steal old cars and tractors to the scrap metal for money.

And also, many truck owners were angry, too, because many people are easy to take the wire off, where is hold the back door of pick up out, then close the door. After you open the door and find out that is no wire to hold the door! The dealership cost you for 40-50 bucks for replace the wire.

It is not just in Kansas. It is all over the country! In West Virginia people cut live power lines and sell the copper. Thieves are cutting catalytic converters off cars everywhere. Thieves are even stealing bronze grave markers, now that's low.

In arizona they're getting it set up that to turn in copper you need to present a valid drivers license, with a valid street address. You won't get cash, but a check in the mail. Also, at todays copper prices it doesn't take much to kick it up to a felony. We usually do at least $900 damages plus the cost of the wire or buss bar etc.

This really concerns me since I have a five gallon bucket full of stripped copper wire. I have been saving this stuff for quite a few years but now I'm afraid when I go to turn it in I will be looked at as a criminal or something. I live in Florida and they can turn anyone they want into a criminal quite easily.

If you didn't steal it, don't worry about it. Anyways, the scrap yards can tell the difference between a five gallon bucket full of stripped assorted copper wire and a pickup full of power transmission line.

Here in St. Louis area they started taking you Driver License info about a year ago. No matter what you recycle they want your Driver License. They may take your info but they never question you.
