I have a little story for today, I got my Bug for metal detecting from My dad. He started metal detecting back in the late 60's when detectors were first getting popular.. Pretty crude machines but I remember as a little boy Going out with him, My mom , and brothers to search for treasure. He even had a couple dredges and he went for gold all the time. My Mom always absolutely loved going with my Dad treasure hunting, Metal detecting and Gold panning.

My Dad Passed away 2 days ago and it has been tough on everyone as anybody would expect. My Mom has been taking it pretty hard since she has been with my Dad for almost 50 years. So today I went and picked her up for a little surprise to break up the seriousness of what has been going on, Told her to get in the Car and we went to a local park to do some detecting. She was just instantly super excited and starting talking about all the detecting stories she had with my dad. We both had a blast remembering Dad and waiting to see what popped next out of the ground. We detected for a good 3.5 to 4 hrs before I took her to lunch. My mom was so happy for such a horrible time, It almost seemed like my Dad was there! So anyways just a super time today detecting and I am so glad My dad passed his interests on to my family and myself. Love you DAD!!

Here are the finds. A silver turquoise Heart Ring (fits my mom and she had it on for the rest of the day Here keep sake for our memories!), A old Chinese Coin, a old Token "good for amusement only" and a old knob or decoration with a ribbon on the design. Oh yea almost for got a Memorial penny that has been rolled with a bead around the edge and the usual bunch of clad.

Sorry for your loss. I lost my parents about 30 years ago and still miss them. It was great that you spent this time with your Mom. I know it did you both good. And congrats on some good finds.

Sorry about your father's passing. What an awesome thing to do for your mother. The fact that she got so excited is great. You should make it a point to take her regularly.

So sorry for your loss. I lost my Dad of all days this past Thanksgiving Day.
That was so good to get your Mom out and distract her from all that you two are both going through and at the same time share what was a big part of what your Dad loved to do.
Your Dad was looking down on you two and right there with the two of you. Coincidence that beautiful ring you found fits your Mom's finger.
Prayers with you and your family.

Wonderful story. It hits close to home for me. Sorry for your loss. Your dad and mine might be hunting together now. Tell them to save some treasure for us!

I'm sorry for your loss. That was the greatest thing a son could do for his mother.

I also want to express my sincere condolences for the loss of your Father! It was great that you took your Mom metal detecting so she could reminisce of the good times she had with your Dad which I am sure helped tremendously with the grief she is going through. It is my profound hope that with each day forward, the grief will diminish but the memories will never fade!

So sorry to here of your loss. I lost my Dad last May to Alzheimer's, and my Mom to a stroke in '06. I miss them both, and savor the memories I have of them. Bless you for doing what you did for your mother. May the good Lord ease the sorrow and keep the memories of happier times fresh in your thoughts.

I too believe your Dad was with you on that detecting trip with your Mom....every step of the way. He will be with you and your family forever. God Bless.

Those are some very special finds! It is awesome that your mom found a heart ring that fits her perfectly, kinda like your dad was right there helping.
That was a brilliant stress reliever you gave your mom and your self, your dad would be proud!

Sorry for the passing of your dad our prayer for you, your mom, and family.

Sorry for the loss of your father, I'm sure he's proud of what you did for your mother.

Great post!

Your family story sounds so familiar as in my family's experiences of sharing the passion of exploring, digging, detecting. Taking out your Mom detecting was the best as it brought the silver lining out of a sad event.

Thank you very much for sharing this as it has once again brought up the many good memories of similar shared moments in time.

Thanks for all the warm replies guys. It truly helps!
