As I was growing up, and still today, I always saved any nickels from my change that were dated 1959 or older. Just something about the 50's and before always seemed "old" to me. I've got countless rolls of them stashed away. Most are average circulated, but there are occasional gems in them. I'd have to unroll all of them to find the nice ones since I haven't seen them in so long. Now I'm starting to wonder what to do with them. Too cool to just spend, but doubtful anyone would buy them for any added value, and doubtful my kids would know what to do with them.

Just 2.5 to 5 years yonger for some silver

I'll give ya 50 cents for each one with a mint mark above the dome on the back! Mid year 1942 through all of 1945.
Seriously, if you didn't separate out all the silver and the AU or better condition coins especially if semi key dates, you should.
Fun find, Terry.

Me too. I wad born in ‘58. Eventually I decided any my age, or older, should be saved.

I started collecting coins when I was five, “helping” my parents who collected only from spare change. My mom didn’t like the war nickels. She thought they were dirty looking. She gave them to me. I then started asking relatives for them. I ended up with quite a few. I just looked through them recently for Hennings but no luck. I still have all my war nickels.

Uh huh. Right now war nickels have a melt value of 1.82 each, so I think I'd have to pass on that offer. LOL

While I can't remember the last time I found 90% silver dimes, quarters, etc. in change, the war nickels still show up now & then. That is when I still pay w/ cash. My youngest grandkids are like, what is that - lol.

Good catch, Terry. I hate to say it but I hardly use cash these days and buy a lot of my needs on-line so pocket change is getting rare.

I’m the third generation in a row on a currency collection I have. Also been a life long collector. I have some neat coins. Recently started collecting bills. I’m after the duplicate serial number on the 2013 B star note $1.00. Long shot but it’s possible. They have been matching pairs often since the project source database.

Nice grab Terry, there are still some old coins out there in circulation. I picked up a 1919 Wheat in change last week.

Thank you my friend. Hope all is well up north!
Thanks Terry
I hope all is well and hope someday we can meet for an ocean beach hunt.
I’m In Rhinebeck so it would take me a little while to get to you..
I’ll be 75 this August..
Take care..
Bill
