I just picked this up today at an indoor flea market on my way to Nevada. It didn't catch my eye at first as I was looking at some Zippos, but then I noticed it's a real functioning little enameled timepiece. I headed up to have them get the key to check this thing out. When I got it in my hands I see what just about made me gasp on the back. The number .750 along with a tiny little hallmark, I'm thinking is an Italian gold mark?. You set the hands and wined it by the little bird house on the roof. It only runs for a few minutes, so I'm sure it needs a good servicing and it's not wound up tight either. When I get home I'll need to use a tiny screwdriver to see the movement, which I expect is most likely a common not so high-end Swiss movement.

Very cool find.

750 is 18K Gold 75% purity

18ct yellow gold (stamped 750, ie, 75% pure gold) is an alloy mixture of pure gold, and usually silver and copper.

Indeed. It's a hefty little thing for it's size, but I'll need to get the watch movement out to get an idea of the actual gold weight. I don't think the enamel would add much to the total weight of gold. I'll bet the back cover alone weighs around 3 to 4 grams?

You might have yourself a very unique lil watch Antiques Roadshow kinda watch. Be careful not to force anything open in the process,

Good Luck

Beautiful find! :occasion14:

That’s a sweet little find and has to be worth a lot more than the $30 you paid!! Well done!

Ive got to see the movement pics! Please!

I opened it up and it's a little cased inside ladies size watch held in with a bracket. So I'd have to unscrew that bracket pull or unscrew the retainer for the crown in order remove the watch and then pop the back off to see the movement. I really don't think the movement anything real fancy. I stopped by a pawn shop in Wendover Nevada and they acid tested the case inside and it's not gold, but the outer back cover which alone is 2.99 grams test good as 18k. The front part is also 18k under the enamel. I'm estimating there's about 6 to 7 grams of 18 karat gold in the total peace. They had a sweet 18k Vacheron & Constantine in that pawn shop for 6K. I should have taken a picture of it. It was in almost mint unused condition.

You are probably right. Reviewing the pic of the dial a better movement would not have such a big gap in the hole for the hands. Still a killer piece. That V&C seems like a good price. I wonder what it was.
