🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Independent Order of Beavers Brass Badge Feb. 1921 (1909)

I dug this item las Sunday, but it was heavily corroded and unidentifiable.
The other night I started my vinegar soak cleaning
process. I was surprised what showed up under the thick oxidated crust.
its about 2” in diameter.
i couldnt find much info on this group, other than it was some type of fraternal brotherhood group similar to the odd-fellows or free-masons.
any info would be appreciated.

I think the “Independent Order of Beavers” is not the same organisation as the “Fraternal Order of Beavers” cited in Wikipedia.

There was an “Independent Order…” founded in Birmingham, Alabama c.1904 (W.H. Frutticher as Supreme Organiser):

Given that the dates on your badge don't match to this organisation (nor the one cited in Wikipedia) I would guess they either relate to the establishment of a particular dam/lodge within the Order or there was another group or offshoot that adopted a similar name.

Birmingham, AL is probably about 4 or 5 hours from here.
i have never heard of the Beavers, but after reading the newspaper clipping it seems like they were a rather large organization during the early part of the 20th century.
The dates do match up a little better.

My great great grandfather was a member in Eufaula, Alabama. Here is his membership card from 1907. Thank you for the newspaper article, I've been searching for information about this organization. I was told it was affiliated with the Masons but I'm not certain if it is.
