Help identify!
I just bought this sideboard from FB marketplace, and wonder if anyone has seen a similar piece. It’s two pieces and the top lifts open to reveal hand stenciled paper lining. There are square pegs and dovetails along with very old-looking round nails. The key and lock do work, but the left lock is totally different and the knob is missing. If anyone has a suggestion of how I can replace that piece, I’d be thrilled. The skeleton wood is pine, but the exterior wood looks like a fruit wood of some kind. The person I bought it from says she got it at an antique shop where it was identified as being a German grain storage cabinet.

Nice piece. Could we get some dimensions? My first thought was blanket chest. Welcome to Tnet!

Why would a grain chest have 2 doors in the front with compartmental space, limiting the actual storage space over all.
If no heading was used "German Grain Chest" I would say a blanket type storage.
Size dimensions would helpful.
I'm not entirely sure (can't tell from pic) if the feet of the unit were cut down from a leg (something longer)
Tuhs going with the longer leg it would be a type of buffet style-with open lid compartment.

Just my opinion, but the shape of the top portion of this cabinet is screaming dough box to me. Not sure why someone would have papered the inside of it. Can you get a better picture of the carving on the front of the top portion?

agree. dough box (or kneading table). my grandmother in Pittsburgh used to have one very similar to this style, brought over from Germany in the late 1800s. used to be in the basement and we used it as a toy chest when i was a kid.
