I found this several years ago when was digging clams . I was carrying them to my truck and I spotted it on top of the ground about 20 feet above the high water mark . I thought it was just a round stone at first . I rubbed some of the crud off it and saw the designs . I gave it a thorough cleaning when I got home . It looks like it's made of red clay , similar to what bricks are made of . Any ideas ?

Looks like an early button with the eye hook missing on the back. Monty

Looks like one of the beads from one of the big, fat necklaces that the indians in the northeast wore. Even the Cherokees in the southeast wore beads that size.

I would say it is an indian bead. I have found several beads myself ( none that ornate ) You would need to have it authenticated to find out if it is indian for sure instead of some other culture or modern. Either way nice find.

Not sure what it is but my guess would be some sort of bead. Looks as if it is made of Catlinite (pipestone).

I think its a pendant from the fur trader days...the hook is missing to attach the chain...go get it! And I would think if there was one...you might be able to find more in the area!!
