Never searched a box of cents, but have searched lots and lots of CWRs of cents (sorry, "lots" won't help with statistics). Never found an Indian.

I found one in my third box. Up to box #15 and still only at 1...

damn!...ive bought probally 500 in pennies and aint found one yet....Its all about being at the right place at the right time

I've done over 5 hundred in cents and got 1 about 10 boxes in. Still hoping for more soon. It was an 07 in EF. LP

I've only done CWRs, usually $5-$10 at a time, and I've found 2. I'd estimate about $500-$750 total in cents I've gone through for those two. Also got one in change, so that was a pretty spectacular score. Also, one of the ones from my CWRs cme out of a roll that also had about 30 wheats in it, so that was a pretty interesting score too. The dates were 1881, 1888, and 1906.

When I first started CRH in August I got 20 rolls of pennies. I got a two wheats then on my seventh roll i got a 1904 indian cent. It was in fine condition. I'd guess about every 25 boxes to get one.

I've been through $11,845 in cents, found 21 indian heads (1889-1909) and one 1858 flying eagle cent. Had one roll with 8 in it, one roll with 2 in it, the rest singles (as well as the flying eagle)

Indian Head

On average, 1 per 23 boxes? Do a box per day in October, and statistically speaking, you should find one. In theory...

never found either, a barber nor an indian head. had lots of other good scores but those have eluded me. Probably at least $1000 in on penny boxes (at least!) and gone through probably 50 dime boxes now, maybe a bit more

Found my first (and only) IH in the first box I ever searched. I have since searched 40-50 boxes but still haven't found a 2nd one.

I found my first one in 1979, it was a 1901. Since then, I've found somewhere between 50 and 100. I stopped counting in the early 1990's, at 43. I typically get 2 a year and I go through 2 boxes of cents a week, so that averages out to 1 / 52 boxes. This year has been slow. I got my first one last week (also 1901), but last year I got 3, so the average still stands. A few years ago, I got 5, with 3 coming in December. The oldest I've found is 1865, the newest 1909. I've also found 2 Civil War tokens that could be counted. The most I got at one time was 4: 2 - 1907 and 2 - 1879.
My grandfather, who started me searching rolls in 1974, searched a "bag" of cents a week starting in 1958, through the 1960's and only found 2 the entire time. What I think has happened since then is that younger people don't know what they are and assume they are foreign, so they stick them in rolls to get rid of them. Back in my grandfather's day, enough people were still around that remembered them, so they knew what they were and kept them. Just a theory...
Keep looking and you'll find one (or more).

Scott

Thanks for your responses everybody!

I'm going to do at least 1 box of cents per day this whole October. I'll make a spreadsheet and let you know how it goes :)

You are back east. they are more prevalent back east than out west.

My stats. One every 234,921 cents searched. Or every 93.97 boxes.

2 Indians in about 15 boxes, and then 1 1905 in 5$ cwr.. Lol

It literally took me like three years of doing boxes pretty often to land an ih. Since I have found 9 I about 3 years. No difference in amount searched so who knows.
If I had to guess id say. I ih in every 25+ boxes searched
