It seems I always find the odd ball stuff and can't ID it. Here's another. This seems like some sort of buckle....maybe a sling strap? It swivels around the rivet. You can see in the side view pic that there's a leather remnant around the rivet post. This site was active in the late 1860s. There's not much trash there, but this could be from another time frame.

Looks like a strap "joint" where a strap went through each of the holes and pivots about the rivet.

I can see that, but what was the context? With that leather remnant it was apparently attached to something. Or maybe the leather was just a gasket? There had to be some purpose it served. We may never know!
