I have had time to squeeze in a few hunts. Sure wish there was more time:) This coin is brass or bronze and I can see a face. Anyone ever seen anything similar. I don't know the date of the us pin but have never seen one. I wonder if the white pin was from the Rio grand RR. The rectangle piece used to hold a fan. I should be able to clean the coin a little better! It seems toasted. Its slightly larger than a nickel. Happy Hunting, I hope you all get out lots before winter sets in!!

Thanks for the ID!! That's just insane to find one here in my hometown. Found in a construction site along with the other TOC finds. You just never know. I think I will clean it with a bump of electrolysis right? Looks like a copy from the link, but I will check into it for sure.

No problem. That's a cool coin! Before you try to clean it, I would look into it's authenticity. If it's genuine it's worth at least $300.

Dude, that coin is amazing! You just never know what you will find. Congrats. -Lisa & John

Congrats on the old coin and other finds

Sweet coin,, if it is real, how did it get to where you found it. Incredible.

Sure wish those coins could talk. There was a lot of activity from around 1890 to 1910 going on there. Almost put it in the burnt coin pile!

Very nice hunt with an ancient surprise. :occasion14:

Just clean with the gentlest method until you find out if genuine or not.

Of coarse I took a small metal brush to it before I took the picture so I could make out the lumps better. I can read the word copy on the back so I will clean it and put it in the collection. Interesting river god! It is a beautiful design:)

Yeap a copy.

It sure was exciting finding the copy. I can't imagine the thrill of finding a real one! I went back up to make sure their wasn't. I think if I lived across the water I wouldn't have any time for anything except detecting!!
