I got this today for $4 . It looks Victorian . Any ideas what type of purse this is ? There was an old hat pin stuck in it too .

Agreed, it was popular in the 70's, however macrame was originally and most popular back in the Victorian era. They made all sorts of things out of macrame. The 1970's was the "revival" period for this style, if you will. I don't know if the bag in question is an original or a 70's version. A black light test may confirm the age as modern or not. I would think that the thread would glow at least if modern, I doubt the macrame would though. I'm going for it being an original based on the small size and just because of who found it, mojjax is always finding really old stuff up there in good old Maine. I think it would be referred to as a brush & comb bag.
 
I think that thing is from the roaring 20's era. A purse for a flapper girl. That stick pin could be the clue :dontknow:
