Interesting ring found at St.Pete beach

Spent 10 hours at St. Pete beach FL. Found 4 rings 1 total junker, 1 10k with a CZ, a 14k with a CZ, and a large gold band but it was kind of tarnished. not heavily but had black streaks on it so I figure it is junk. I get home and see it is marked 18 not 18k just 18. I acid tested it and it failed 18k so I decided to test it with 14k and it passed. Any ideas as I have never found a gold ring that had light streaks of tarnish

I've found them like that. Usually 10k but I found a 14k with green tarnish and pits. Probably poorly made in my opinion. Nice finds.

High Copper content. Leave it overnight in dishsoap. It will clean lovely but tarnish quick if you handle it. I think. Maybe. being stamped like that is a bit of a concern. Its usually older.

It definitely has a copper shine to it. As it is almost a rose gold color. I am still confused as to the fact that it is marked 18 with a hallmark next to it.

boil it with aluminum foil and baking soda to redox. That will clean it up real good. Possible that is 18k but had oxidized so it was able to pass the 14k test but not the 18k test. Retest after completely cleaning.

I bought one similar to that a few years back at an auction... Thinking it was 18k.. It wasn't. It was gold filled.

My guess is that it is European. Size 18 European is equal to a US size 8. The crown could be British although they tend to have more hallmarks.

Nice find! Were you hunting in the water or wet sand? That sea hunter must go deep, it's been pretty sanded in. I think we met out there a month ago... I was carrying an AT Pro at the time and you gave me a 50 cal bullet?

Was not me flgliderpilot. But I did find my answer as to the ring in question and I would like to thank Buzzhead. I could not do a specific gravity test so I did the next best thing. I got my bolt cutters out and cut it in half probably not my smartest move but it did give me the answer I was looking for or not. It failed all acid tests from 18k down to 10k. Gold filled booooo

Filled gold still contains gold, so couldn't you throw it in with the rest of the melt when you send it in? Not a total loss right
