Gold Finds after 6 - 5 hr hunts on west coast of Florida

I usually hunt the west coast of Florida from Dec - May, but health issues limited hunting to only 6 hunts mostly in April and May. Here are my gold finds:
- 0.92 gram 14K "Love" ring
- 2.47 gram 14K fancy ear ring
- Gold and 52 diamond (tested) pendant (have to test gold purity when back home)
- 14K white gold band 5.16g
- Grillz with clear stones (not diamonds) and have to test purity when back home.
Also found various silver pieces inc 3-925 rings, 3 -ear rings, a 10g 925 necklace.
Best part was just getting back into the water, talking to fellow MDers and simply enjoying the beach life.

Most of this sht on Youtube is the one time they found something after recording 40 videos... don't believe the hype.. when I'm at the beach I have a hard time finding my A... and I have a fat A.. 🤣 🤣 🤣 And the BEST detector on the market.. (DEUS II) But it doesn't give me endless gold rings..

Do you discriminate a lot either by sound or numbers ?
I hunt in all metal - ive followed a lot of guys that always use discriminate - ive followed guys that over discriminate
I do not hit virgin beaches or secret spots - I hit spots that get hit by ton of detectorists every summer
Some swing too fast - try to hit the whole beach before anyone else can - since i wear a mask
i can see their foot prints and their scoop marks if i get in right after them - one of my last nice diamonds
i got in Fl. was at So bch - there were like 4 other guys in before low tide like 3 hrs - so we were all
competing in closer - guy closest to me was like 10 yrds in front of me. He was getting signals and when
i looked at bottom i could see his foot prints and scoop marks - He started moving a littile faster through this one spot bout waist deep - he was using an Excal. When i got to this spot I started getting a bunch of iron
signals - I dug like 6 nails - then got a nickel then got a gold and diamond ring then a few more nails.
He turned out a little deeper and headed back my way - i said Hi! and nodded - I asked are you discriminating
he said yes - theres spots with nails here and there. I said yeah I just tried cleaning them out - I
then showed him the ring and told him this was in with the nails
Ive gotten a lot of gold over the yrs with junk or deep under junk - is it worth digging all
the junk i do - I think so

I guess it's all in perspective. I don't know how much a heart loaded with diamonds would cost, but I do know that I couldn't afford it, lol. But those that are rich or well off enough to be able to afford, the cost might just be a drop in the bucket for them.

For instance, if I bought my wife a junk ring on the boardwalk that looked nice, but only cost $20 or so, and she lost it while swimming, oh well, it's gone but isn't going to ruin us financially.

But if someone is worth millions or multi millions, and they lose a diamond encrusted ring or heart, maybe worth $10K, $20K or whatever, that might be the same to them as my wife losing the $20 ring, lol. I'm sure they're probably not happy about losing the ring/heart, but they might be so rich that they just figure they'll file their insurance claim and get another one. I've always wondered what it would be like to have FU money, lol.

What detector are you using? Are you hitting the wet and venturing out into the water? Man CH, I envy you guys in Florida. Here in MD, the water's so dark, that once you get about a foot deep, you can't see your feet. If I can't see my feet, then I can't see any toothy critters that might be in the area, and it also makes pinpointing much more challenging. I'd love to be able to hunt in water where I can see my coil and anything that might be heading my way, lol. I learned to SCUBA in Cozumel, and it was just crazy that I could be on the surface, put my face/mask in the water and see the bottom 50ft down, wish the waters here in MD were clear like that.

How are you hunting the beaches? Are you just be-bopping around the dry & possibly into the wet with no plan, or are you making focused efforts, gridding an area, spending hours searching, etc? I've found the keys to beach hunting to be persistence, effort, and knowledge. Most of the guys on here and even on a lot of YouTube videos will show all they found, so you'll see all the trash, pull-tabs, fishing sinkers, etc, that they found before they hit the gold ring. They might show 1 gold or silver ring, a few coins, and tons of trash they had to dig. Also, are you checking the tide charts and spending a little time reading the beach before deciding on what area to search? There's a lot involved with beach hunting, and sometimes, no matter what you do, it may simply come down to being the right person, in the right location, at the right time.

My favorites are the newbie "golfers". I'm sure we've all seen these guys out on the beach, as these are the guys that swing their coil like a golf club, left to right in a high arch, not horizontal with their coil lightly kissing the sand to get maximum depth. Their coil is probably over just a couple inches of sand for a split second before the coil starts heading skyward again. To top it off, many of these poor souls will typically have their coil about 6"-8" or so off the sand to start, so unless someone just lost a target and it's only an inch or so down, there's probably no chance that they'll detect it, since they're moving so fast and swinging like Arnold Palmer, lol. It's also interesting that most of the golfer guys that I've seen typically have older and/or much lower end detectors that would have no hope of hitting a target 15" down, even if they were swinging properly and slowing down their search. I also never see these guys hunting the wet, they typically inhabit just the dry.

Sometimes I like to follow these guys, not close, but they'll leave footprints and maybe a trail if they're dragging their scoop. Other newbies out there detecting will typically avoid the area the golfer is searching, probably figuring that the area he's hitting will already be searched since he's moving so fast. They won't take into account the guy has his coil so high off the ground that he might not have any depth left and that his coil is only over a very small piece of sand for a split second. They'll just see a guy detecting an area, swinging fast, and they'll look to search a different area. But IMHO, although he's "searching" an area, he's really not searching that area at all, so I'll follow behind him swinging my Sovereign's 12x10 SEF Butterfly coil low and slow.

I love the golfer detectorists. Their presence will typically keep other newbies away from the area they're searching, and I'll just casually follow him to pick up everything he's missed, while the other detectorists are staying away and searching different areas.

Well, as it's been said, sometimes even a blind squirrel finds a few nuts. At least that tells you that you were in a good area. If there's 2 rings, there's probably more. And if he was just using his foot to dig, those 2 rings were probably recent drops and not down too far.

Damn PJ, that's one serious looking ring! I never wear my wedding ring when detecting. I wear fingerless gloves when detecting on the beach, just to protect my hands from getting blisters, but I can still use my fingers to pick up small items. Since I hunt the wet and into the water, my hands do get wet with cold water due to digging. And I know, all it takes is a quick millisecond of mindlessness for the ring to be gone. Fingers shrink in cold water just like you know what, lol.

Luckily, my wife doesn't really go into the water per se', but she'll wade in just deep enough to cover her ankles, but there's been a lot of finds since time memorial in the "Grandparents" zone, lol. So, if she's going into the water, I'll ask her to let me hold the ring. After all, she may only be in ankle deep water, but if she gets sand on her hands, she's gonna put those hands in the water to wash the sand off, and that's where tragedy lies. I'll put her ring it in a zip lock baggie that I keep in my swimsuit that has cargo pockets. That's where I keep my truck keys, $, driver's license, etc., all zipped up in a Ziplock baggie.
