Interesting slate item.

I found this slate item the other night looking for my digging shovel I lost in the field. It is quite heavy for its size, I am not sure if it is quite old or a 1830s time period. I don't think it is banned slate, it is a greenish grey colour. It is about 3 inches, 1 inch wide, 1/2 '' thick, It is kinda cool all the same, any ideas.

It would be strange to be made of slate but it reminds me of a wet-stone for sharping blades/knifes.

If it were not made of slate, I would say splitting wedge. Since it is slate it cant be, because one hit with a hammer or rock would shatter it. It is an interesting find.

My guess is a shim of some sort. Probably used in construction of a fireplace or to help level a hearthstone. But it’s kinda cool and I’ve never seen anything like that utilized for slate roofing.
