I dug this out of a rock shelter in southeast Ohio a few years ago. It was roughly a foot down and at the very back wall of the shelter. It's missing an ear, likely broken during manufacture. However, the knapper decicided to finish the point as it is finely flaked in that area. From what I have gathered it may be an Intrusive Mound point. Any other ideas on what it may be? That is an Ohio Pentagonal. Nice looking piece. Once they sharpened them down to a nub they would make Hafted Scrapers from them.

Nice point. I have only seen the pentagonal in a Jacks Reef. Is that all from the same time frame?

sweet piece. Have always wanted to find a intact pentagonal piece.

Never even heard of an OHIO pentagonal? But then I do not hunt Ohio.:laughing7: I see them on one site are they just found in Ohio?

Not really, it's just a name that got hung on them. We find them in Kentucky too.

Here is a couple of pics of some whole Points and some Hafted Scrapers. There are a few Ohio Pentagonals in each picture.

Steve is probably right on that one. Nice dig find. Here is a base to a Intrusive Mound. They lived between the Hopewell and Ft. Ancient..........I don't dig a lot of them. Rare as hens teeth here in my part of Ohio. Keep diggin brother.

I like them. I can see why with such a nice base when the tip did beak the point was re worked into a hafted scrapper. Thanks for the view. I learn something new all the time. I will have to look for a similiar type in my little pile.
Ok edited.. from Tn marked Nickajack. Weak notch slight bifuricate base. Closest to a notched pentagonal I have. Ohio.Kentucky.Tennessee? Maybe?
