There was an air of anticipation and excitement in Mahanoy City and the surrounding patches as the community and baseball fans in particular awaited the arrival of Babe Ruth in the autumn of 1923. The twenty-eight year old Ruth had just completed his fourth season with the New York Yankees in which he batted .393 ( the best of his career ) and hit 45 home runs. The Yankees had won their first world series less than two weeks before. The Bronx Bombers had defeated the New York Giants in a "subway series" in six games. This would be the first of the Yankee's 27 world championships. Babe was originally scheduled to be in town on Tuesday, the 23rd of October, but that date was postponed because of rain. Babe's appearance was rescheduled for Friday, October 26th. The local schools and collieries closed early in anticipation of the great event. if I was local and in great health, I'd contact the owner
and ask his opinion on me detailing the bank for exclusive rights to detect it
odds are it hasn't been mowed since early 2000's

or at the very least keep an eye on the place for Movement.
and people to get to know .



I have hunted the East End Park in '11



But was in a Very worn out Condition.
I believe it was a Final stop on a Full day's traveling & hunting
ball parks Day.

and I only manged a '47-D cent at this site

Jeff, I have hunted the grass hill on both sides of the steps going up to the school, some silver, junk rings wheats, unusual stuff etc, still lots more there Im sure, the grass doesn't ever get cut anymore, if it did there would be a great many more finds to make. One thing to note, if you are looking up the steps at the school, to the right you will see a big open field type parking lot which leads to the potty hill heading out of town, that lot was the site of an early 1800's school I believe, would be right behind st fidelas church, now closed.
