Sure, give me that address to "Coin Beach" so I can put it in my GPS...
and I will see you down there buddy....

Re: Irene & Me at Indian River Inlet

Torrero, sorry about that. It is in Delaware just below Lewes on Rt.1. You probably have plenty of sites down there though. Frank

The way this thing looks, anyone on the east coast will have plenty of places to to hunt the beach.

Re: Irene & Me at Indian River Inlet

i am planning on going as well, i may hit coin beach or another beach in OCMD or both. I am sure we will see plenty of us out there. Good luck!!

Re: Irene & Me at Indian River Inlet

I can't make it this weekend but I'm hoping to get there on Monday.

Re: Irene & Me at Indian River Inlet

Dr Jones, The last storm, I was alone on Coin Beach There are the wishfull and there are the doers. Frank

Re: Irene & Me at Indian River Inlet

If the storm is as bad as they are predicting, Rte 1 will be under water and maybe parts will be washed out. How do you think the current inlet got there? The inlet was once where the old coast guard station is located. I think Rte 1 will be closed and probably for days.

Re: Irene & Me at Indian River Inlet

i agree, i think it will be closed for a bit. southern DE is going to get hammered. Maybe she will track away at the last minute but i assume its gonna be a bit before anyone is allowed to coin beach.

Re: Irene & Me at Indian River Inlet

well I think you guys have a point there. Access might be severely limited. In fact the word is that there will be some road blocks up. The power company called and said to expect power outages.
Rt.1 has been elevated a bit since inlet moved. They are calling for an 8' cut in the dunes which should expose some almost virgin sand. As I recall the road at Coin Beach is about 24' above mean high tide. But the strip towards Dewey might be lower. I might try getting there by 26 and then up Rt 1. It's a little higher near Bethany as I remember. Frank

PS, I am heading down Sunday, should be there by 3PM. Will stay thru Monday, longer if the pickins are good.

Re: Irene & Me at Indian River Inlet

im coming down on monday. hope i can get there and i hope there is some pickins left!! save me some lol

As big as the beaches are and as long as the Eastern Seaboard is....
we all should be happy for at least 6 months.

Re: Irene & Me at Indian River Inlet

Well, I am here at the inlet (Sun). There is no damage in De. except the dunes, they are gone ! I fount the usual junk, tent pegs, pull tabs, and a 8" electricians plyers. The one interesting thing is an encrusted object about 6" in surface area, irregular shape, about 1" thick. Could be pot metal or silver. It will be a challenge to conserve it. The campground is closed so I will hide out on a parking lot of onr of the restraunts or Home Depot uf near Lewes on Rt 1. Will spen the day here tomorrow. Frank Oh, I will have my bulldog shirt on tomorrow.

Re: Irene & Me at Indian River Inlet

So far today, ! really old black nickle and one Gold,I hope, chain with cross and football helmet with star on it. Hope the cross is not the consolation prise from the man upstairs. It's only 3pm so I have another 3 hours to hunt. The wet area with black sand is giving my XLT some falsing, so it's back to the PI. I have talked to many hunters, but none from T Net. We will probably be getting some new members from this trip. Out to the hunt! Frank
PS The dunes are gone.

Re: Irene & Me at Indian River Inlet

I have training in a few weeks in OC, Md so I hope to hit coin beach in the evening. The sand will probably be washed back in by then. :(

Re: Irene & Me at Indian River Inlet

I haven't heard of a coin from coin beach for years. I think it's time is past. I went there the day after the storm and only found a modern gold chain with cross, but the hundred dollar bills did look nice. It was a break even event for me. Frank

Re: Irene & Me at Indian River Inlet + pictures

Slow, but here they are. The inlet finds. The chain and cross are first. I just sold it. The next pics are an unknown object of unknown material. It's not iron, it turnes black in salt water, it is hard as steel and it is heavy. There were no sparks when I brushed it with an steel wheel.
The thing that scares me is I can see Gabrail and I can also see the devil when I look at it.
What do you see?
The first object pic is as found.
The second is the back after blasting with Al Oxide.
The third is after blasting and wire brushing.

Hay you guys in Maryland and around it, The beaches that have been closed to detecting in State Parks open up on Tuesday. Cherry picking time!!

piece of slag metal from a refinery

Re: Irene & Me at Indian River Inlet **Pictures added**

on a beach in De. I don't think there are any around here. It is nonferrous, heavy, hard, turns black in salt water, takes on a high shine with the use of a steel wire wheel. I took it to a welding shop and they couldn't identify it.
It looks like a snake down the middle in front and two wings on top. The back looks like it has the remains of a bracket. Hay, I have a vivid imagination! Frank
