Got some pictures of the mount after cleaning . Turns out it's Irish 8th/9th century, Irish Mount with Figural Cross - Lot No. 58000

When you find Irish 8th / 9th century metal work, in England it tends to mean one thing Vikings !!!. The area is now producing Viking finds.

Cheers Scrappy, the mount is from an Irish maybe monastic work shop. It was later acquired by the Vikings in Ireland, and taken to England.

Now the iron fixings are clear, a shield mount can't be ruled out either. Looks great, I would not be able to sell that one!
