When you find Irish 8th / 9th century metal work, in England it tends to mean one thing Vikings !!!. The area is now producing Viking finds.

Cheers Scrappy, the mount is from an Irish maybe monastic work shop. It was later acquired by the Vikings in Ireland, and taken to England.

Now the iron fixings are clear, a shield mount can't be ruled out either. Looks great, I would not be able to sell that one!

Hello Mike, nice to hear from you. My son and his girlfriend are buying a house. They need a hand with the deposit, and it is a pleasure to help. I'm very thankful for metal detecting. I know now why I kept so much stuff over the years.

[IAMZIM]

Beautiful!!! Absolutely!!! I would have to keep that as well!!

[Bavaria Mike]

I figured you had a good reason and taking care of the family is number one, I would/will do the same. Buying a house in England is a big deal, wish you and your son good luck bro. My house is kicking my ass at this time and I don't have much time to detect, really sucks, LOL. HH, Mike
