the heart is bronze and concave perfect for thumb, the shaft is iron

Another possibility is casket hardware... was the iron portion threaded?

I have found a few of those at a cemetery and yes mine were threaded and I thought it was casket hardware

PS...

I might add that many things had these shaped screws... all kinds of tools etc... But I believe your screw came from above.

All good ideas. I've got a 19th C hand vise with a heart-shaped wing nut on it. I would think it's a 100+ years old.
