🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Iron ball with hole clear through

Cleaning out old house I found this old iron ball 6" in diameter weighing 15 pounds with collars on each opening. The hole goes all the way through, but when you look inside there appears to be a cavity about the size of a golf ball inside.

Could that have been 1 of the balls for a steam engine governor. They usually used 2-4 of them on different steam engine governors.
