the krazy things we do...i found this iron over a week ago..it was a huge mass of rust, and some-other metal from another world..lol
the darn things weighs 5 lbs after scraping scraping and soaking and soaking..not to mention the vinegar smell.. 2 ruined towels 2 t-shirts. etc.
I am now the proud owner of an 1800's iron door stop..plus a big mess and a pound of rust..
and yes i'd do it again....
peace....OWG.
the scale in the pic. is 6" long

LOL, I'm in the same boat with a horse shoe and a small shoe anvil. I was told "CLR" works great but have yet to try it.

WOW. That hunk of iron went on a diet and now look! Nice looking iron, ohiowhiteguy. Now you might want to seal it with something to keep the rust from reforming. I like to use light coats of spray on RUST-OLEUM Painter's Touch Ultra Cover Matte Clear or something similar.
I haven't tried vinegar for removal yet. So far I have had good results with electrolysis and more recently CLR. For removal I use a putty knife for the heavy stuff and a wire brush for the fine tuning.
