I believe what I have is an OLD iron kettle hook. Was detecting on a pc of property with some very large oaks (dia 100"+). I found this in the fine feeder roots about 2 feet away from the trunk at a depth of ten inches. Not much rust at all, probably cause the roots kept things aerated. Can I get anyone out there to venture a guess as to an age??? C'mon, don't be shy about it. I'm guessing around 150 yrs (Its forged - not cold rolled and the depth of the feeder roots).

What do you think?

Sorry about the pic - can't get others below requirement size. 7" long and 1/2" square with a 1" long "L" shaped hook.
