Hi all. I know this item is not valuable, but I love the mystery of "what is it?" and I love the speculation of the members of the forum.
So - what do you think this iron ring is? It comes from a wealthy farm that dates back to the 1750's and was active until just recently.

If you're interested, this item spent maybe 8 hours under electrolysis to remove a lot of the corrosion. (I didn't take very many "before" pictures, but I put one at the bottom.) I also know that electrolysis damages the item, but as I said - I don't expect it to be valuable anyway.

Looks like a wagon tongue support ring.

It looks like it has been mashed from a ring to an oval.

Used to hold 2 post together to latch a gate. My Grandpa used them. one on the bottom one on the top. Place the bottom in first then push the top together and place the other on top and pull it down tight. One post is stationary the other you move back out of the way to allow live stock through.

Thank you all so much for the input and ideas. (I didn't know what a "wagon tongue" was before this post!)
This could be helpful in the future, as I'm collecting relics from this farm for what may possibly be a little historical display in the future. The farm is being turned into a community park in the near future, and the on-site greenhouse will become some sort of "museum".
