Maybe I'm a grump, but you know what?



I get irritated when watching a video of a metal detectorist finding a coin and they subject me to 2 minutes of palm flipping the dang thing while they blather on about nothing important. Stop flipping the coin every 3 seconds! Jeesh! Shut up and get to hunting, nervous Nelly!

I get irritated when watching a video of a metal detectorist and every single recovery is just out of camera view. Why do you upload that crap? Do you not check yourself? Come on!

There are more gripes but I'm more interested in asking, what irritates you on YouTube?

I avoid certain YouTube topics on things I enjoy - metal detecting is one. Hunting is another. (The whispering grates on me).

Just a still image that clearly shows the find is better to see what it is and I can then spend six minutes of my life doing constructive things.

I get irritated by amateur video intro's that seem to endlessly drone on for 30 seconds or more that also appear to be created by a 12 year old in Microsoft Powerpoint while punishing your ears with a crap audio track ripped from a bad 1990's Nintendo game. Just get to the video you Tarentino wannabe! Come on!

Drives me nuts when they hold the coin up so close it's just a blurr.....also flipping it over and over at a high rate of speed. Screeching and running to your hunting partner every time you find something.

I hate listening to people who can't speak properly. Or at all for that matter. There's a few I enjoy watching. And I get really into aquachigger. They're long,and drawn out, and he's always saying the same thing like... "Ok, hold your breath" and "ok guys here we go" but I genuinely like his videos. I like a little gab in the video, I like to know that they don't only enjoy the hunt, but they also enjoy people watching it, and just knowing they took the time to go and edit the videos.

Some is just ANNOYING! Like, digginbritt.... I'm returning sure she's only in it for subscribers. She doesn't seem to be really finding anything at all, and it's just showing off her body.
I'm not complaining, but it aggravating

Yup, her latest video has over 150,000 views in two days! My videos average about 15 views a month! I just don't get it. There's lots of free porn online, so why do so many people feel the need to watch her bend over and dig up another pull tab?

Long intros are a killer for me as well. Anything over 15 seconds is wasting my time. And kill ANY music. You may like a certain song, but most of us don't want to hear it in your metal detecting video.

I know what you mean and the one that does that they are with Whites i refuse to watch you tube videos on metal detecting. I will not watch TV shows on metal detecting ... But the show from the UK i liked and did watch was the . Detectorists but then it was a show about how there lives went .home life, love life, family life, not like boring tv and youtube metal detecting shows

You guys have just scratched the surface of this topic... I love it.
I agree so much here... and many have hit the nail on the head.

I have a love / hate thing for YouTube...
IMO... close to 70% of YouTube is mediocre at best.

Here is my top ten tips for "youtubers"... heh

#1. Intro's suck and are waste of time... no one gives a crap... Hell I don't even like or read an intro to a movie... GET ON WITH IT.

#2. Some feel the need to post the entire process in WAY too much detail... or just leave the camera running through the slow parts... EDIT IT ! ! !.

#3. IF your goal is to do a good video... Then do it. Don't post yourself looking like a bum that just rolled out of bed.

#4. A simple title page to your video will suffice... the special effect intro does nothing to impress me OR anyone else I assure you... you have basically wasted your time and mine.

#5. DONT REPEAT the same thing over and over... ARRRG ! I heard ya the first time AND IF I didn't... I CAN REWIND IT !

#6. IF YOU DO A DETECTING VIDEO... show the find and move on... WE DID NOT FIND IT SO - we are not as thrilled as you are to see it over and over.

#7. Speak clearly... OR IF windy or such... EDIT with music overlay... And choose something that is not annoying. ADD words to the screen briefly to explain if needed.

#8. If doing an instructional video... THINK IT THROUGH... do a sketch first.... don't just start the camera and wing it through.

#9. DONT put a picture FOR YOUR video of something THAT IS NOT even in your video... not only is it a false ad scam but makes me and others avoid your vids. .. OH and you are lame.

And finally...
#10... IF YOU SEEM TO ONLY MAKE LAME VIDEOS... STOP POSTING THEM. heh... OR rethink things and strive in a new way for success. Don't just keep posting them hoping something sticks.
