Is it pontilled?

I have this plain old blob top. The pocket I found it in was very old. Is it pontilled? There are no seams. Thanks for looking. I was so disappointed when I pulled it out and it lacked any embossing but since it was a blob top I threw it in s bucket and took it home.

Looks more like an applied tapered lip with an iron pontil scar. Probably an imported beer made in a turn mold, leaving no seam line visible.....IMO

Well if its iron pontil, isnt that pontilled? I don't know though because there was no iron residue on the bottom at all. You could be 100% correct but I was under the impression if its iron pontilled there would be a residue.

That's a crude one. There is a category of bottles from say 1865-1875 that can be described as "shouldabeenpontiled" or "refired pontil." These bottles may be transitional from pontil rod to snap case, bottles blown in the same mold but handled differently for finishing. The collector keeps looking for the evidence of attachment to a pontil rod, but there just is none. Frustrating, but not a rare happenstance.

No worries, it's common (at least on the beach I dig) for the graphite LOOKING residue to get scrubbed off..it happens

"Transitional" is the term I would use to describe bottles made with crude machines/devices.
