is it real??

doing a couple boxes od halfs this week and came across a half dollar gold in color with the numbers 1960 stamped above the in God and 1985 numbers stamped above we trust . the coin is a 1972 D . does that ring a bell to someone out there could use your input. suprdave

It sounds like one of those "collectible" coins. Companies take a standard clad half, gold plate it with 2 cents worth of gold, then stamp some "key dates" on it to make it look like a commemorative of some sort. They then sell them on TV for $9.99 or some other outlandish price to suckers. It likely isn't worth more than 52 cents. But of course, I could be wrong.

It is real, an aftermarket novelty coin. I have found many, and put every one of them back thru the coin counter.
