Is it worth getting loose rolls of halves or dollars?

I pick up my stuff at BOA. But I don't have enough to be getting half boxes. I'm working with just $225 right now, so gotta build back up to do dimes again. But I've been getting nickels lately. Getting a few war nickels in each box. And for some reason keeping anything Pre 1960. Not sure if this is worth it or not as I'm not doing any sets or anything.
But would it be worth asking them if they have any loose rolls of halves or large dollars? Or would I likely be getting someones dump?

With that much to work with skip saving the "nickel" nickels and get the loose and rolled halves

I'm thinking I may go thru these nickels and pick out all the war nickels that are certain silver and just dump the other pre 60s stuff. I was only really keeping it cause it was old. Probably not worth the effort?

I've only once found silver in over-the-counter halves: 6 40%ers out of 14 halves. I've never found CWR halves btw either (banks here won't accept rolled coin, they want it in a box or bag so they can send it off for counting).

Other people have had very good luck though so it's all random.

The only silver I've ever gotten has been from teller trays or a lone customer loose roll or two. I did half a box that was a skunk, and I've collected large quantities of CWRs that were all someone else's dumps.

I don't even bother with the banks around here other than teller tray finds. I know the ultimate strategy is to buy _everything_, but I could probably bring home $2000 of another CRH's recent dumps from ten banks in my area. The small banks in outlying towns that have no CRH dumpage are more productive.

Loose rolls meaning rolls that aren't in a box, possibly from a customer turning them in.

If have you have a source for halves by all means keep your options open. I have a merchant teller at
a large bank who pulls all of the halves and saves them for me. Granted they don't get many but it pays off on occasion. Just yesterday she had $10 worth and I pulled a 40% er. Not earth shaking but I'm a small timer. The very first roll of CWR of halves I ever got contained a nearly uncirculated '38D walking liberty (look it up if you're not familiar). I've purchased several hundred dollars worth at a time only to be skunked. So I'd say get the "loose" & CWR's if you can.
