The coil is waterproof, the box is not. Most newer detectors have waterproof coils. Only clearly stated "underwater" will have a waterproof box.
 

yes danger is right u can go in the water just dont get that box wet
 

Yep. The box is VERY water sensitive, so just be careful
 

You might even consider putting a bag or something over the box just to be certain that you don't get water on it.
