Did you do tile scratch test?
What color scratch does it leave?
Are there mineral crystals growing it?
Does it crumble easy like decomposing granite?
That is a good size specimen.
I am looking it up in my rock & mineral guide.

Have never the tile test, gonna have to look that one up. Color... im pretty much color blind so... lol. There is some quartz on one of the pieces, and it does not crumble easy. You can prob pick some away with your fingers if you try hard.. but its somewhat solid. Not that heavy though, thats why Ithought it might be pyrite. It could be leaveitryte... LEAVE IT RIGHT THERE! lol sorry, had to pass that corny one along.. thanks!

That's ok That's how it gets passed on.
I like that saying.
Heard it first back in the 90s from the Buzzard-Gorge Massie.
It looks to be a Garnet-Mica Schist
Compare to this.

Does it split in flakes?
Are thin flakes translucate and flexiable?
This it part of the puzzle of finding gold.
Geology.
In the field.
This stuff is fun.

I was looking through my 1/2" tailings last night and I think I found a piece of Cinnabar.
Any material I bring home is scrutinized.
I'll show you my garnets sometime.

Whoa! The first pic looks just like it. Very cool. Yes it does break away in small metallic looking flakes when manipulated, that seem to be very light when panning.

Show me dem garnets.! this color issue I have kinda screws me when trying to identify rock/metals/specimens...

All good, this is good stuff. A one year vet, I still have SO much to learn.. But I'm lovin going out there and making stupid mistakes and learning.. The hard way is the good way. You know in the beginning how fun and new it all is, can't stop thinking about it..ect ect.. Kinda like the beginning of marriage.. And then, .... You know, LOL.
