Is yours lead or steel? Im still confused as to why i think i have a steel bullet...seems that would destroy a barrel awfully quick

Mine is lead ,I sent a pic to a guy and he seems to think its a carved oddity. I think it has teeth marks in it also

If it's steel and conical shaped, it's not a bullet from the civil war. If it is round and over an inch in diameter it could be a canister ball.

If it is steel, it isn't a bullet. But I don't know how anyone determined it was steel! From the way it is damaged it would be hard to say what kind of bullet it is although I am fairly sure it is a bullet just from the general shape. I don't have my reference book handy but there are several bullets listed in the Civil War era that has a similar shape....that being it reminds me of half an acorn in general shape. To tell you it is from the Civil War would be a disservice to you and the other forum members without having further information, such as: From what general area was it found, approximately what caliber is it (diameter at the widest part), and what is the approximate weight in grains(There is several conversions charts available on the net if you don't have a scale that measures in grains).
