Is this a common find?

This chunk of metal was dug out of my yard (1800's home). It looks like some melted iron? Magnets stick to it. I'm wondering why this would be in the yard? Is this common to find?

Maybe its not melted but just rusted beyond recognition.

Could be a piece of an old tool or anything really, if you dig a lot of iron it's probably more common.

I found this about 14-15 inches down in my yard, the house was built in 31 so I've dug all sorts of stuff there. But I had no clue what it was till I got it cleaned up.



It's an old mini spade or gardening shovel. Of course this was found in my "dig everything days".

I think you could be right. I wasn't sure because it is 1/2" thick in some places.
