Is this a fake barber? Your thoughts

Here are both sides to this dime. I'ts the first barber i have ever found and i'm thinking it may be a fake. Give me your 10 cents on this item, please.

My dime's worth.... Looks real to me. Is there something the pictures don't show?

If you have a digital scale, the minted weight of a Barber is 2.5 grams. Your coin is worn, so it would come in a little less. To give you an example of the wear, a Standing Liberty quarter fresh from the mint will weigh in at 6.25 grams. I put a worn dateless SL on the scale and it came in right at 6 grams.

Another test is to lay it on a counter top beside a clad dime. Lay a tissue over both of them. The clad dime will go dark, and real silver will turn white. That's called the tissue test.

Sorry, i should have mentioned this along with the post. It's the "s" mint mark. It's stamped.

I think the problem here is that the "S" may have been put on coin through some means. If that makes coin much more valuable, then E-bay buyer beware etc.

It seems quite silly to me for anyone to fake this coin as it's not worth much but it's clear that the mint mark is not real. Another question, does this fake mint mark devalue this not so valuable coin? I can't sell this rare, forged coin finding machine, pace. Where would i ever get another one?...hehe

I see the S, downloaded the picture and zoomed in. Yep, somebody done done sumptin to it..... Other than that I believe the coin itself is real. The stamp is obviously different from the coin itself = added later...

The coin itself is worth about $1.51 melt at today's spot....

Dime looks real, obviously the mint mark was faked. Could have been but one step in the forging process. Stamp the S, then pour metal into a tiny mold, the apply it into the stamped groove and let it cool. Also, the forger could have been practicing on low value specimens.

Yes, since the coin was messed with, it's considered damaged, which detracts from the value. Still a neat piece to own.

Thanks masterjedi. That seems to be the everybody's thought. I'm gonna keep it as an interesting coin cuz who really knows when that happened. 1906? maybe, maybe not. Either way, i love the history of it all.
