Real or dummy, I bet the day you found this is a day you won't forget. Hopefully it turns out to be harmless and not destroyed by the bomb squad. That cleaned up as a display would certainly be a conversation piece.

It has potential to be real and DANGEROUS, I definitely wouldn't hit it several times with a big hammer, or even a small hammer!!

Well after 3 1/2 hours and shift change with the city police department one city officer is here with a specialst from Indianapolis and a state police officer is here. They all have moved farther away from the item..guess they are waiting for a removal team to show up. That's all they will say.

They may go blow it up even if it is not real. Good for a practice, or teaching opportunity. And you might as well not ask for a souvenir piece. When I asked for a piece of the WWII bomb detonator I found on the beach the bomb squad very matter-of-factly said there would not be enough left for souvenir.
