Your coin looks like (and you describe it as) a Mexican 8-reales issued in the last year of Fernando VII's rule in Mexico--although Spanish troops held Fort San Juan de Ulua until 1835. That coin should measure 40 mm and weigh in at just over 27 grams. You mentioned the description on the reverse. Could there be a "J" initial after the 8 R. H.?

There is no "J" after the 8. I have posted a photo of the back of the coin.
