Got this button in a field that has given up early 1900s silver: sterling fork and spoon, sterling thimble and a 1913 Barber dime. That being said the field is in a prime eastern Massachusetts colonial area. Came out of the ground looking like dull silver (looks darker on the pictures) It's heavy and thicker than the usual colonial flat button. Any idea what it is and what period it could be?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Patrick

It looks too thick to be a coat button, almost looks brass to me due to the amount of verdigris. :icon_scratch:
I've found a lot of one-piece buttons, but none that were that thick.

I'm thinking possibly a brass horse saddle button / decoration.

Nice ID Antiquarian...what was the VDI? Tombacs are low, like gold.
