Better pictures may not help much. If it is amber, it will pass all three of these tests:

- Rub it vigorously on a woollen item (sweater, sock, blanket or whatever). Amber will develop enough static charge to attract small pieces of torn-up paper tissue.

- Swab an area of it with a cotton bud dipped in vodka. Amber will not become sticky or tacky, easily judged by whether a dry paper tissue then adheres to it.

- Heat the tip of a needle using a cigarette lighter and touch it on the specimen. Amber will soften and yield to the needle, releasing a resinous pine-like odour.

What were the results of the tests I suggested? If those tests suggest it isn't amber, then better pictures may help, but determining what it is will come more from what properties it has, rather than from pictures.

What else can you tell us about it? Where found? How heavy is it relative to a stone of similar size? How hard is it (look up hardness testing)? Does it have a streak colour (look up streak testing)? If you have access to a UV light, does it fluoresce?
