Is this an American Buckle

I just purchased this buckle it was found on the Australian goldfields and wonder if anyone has seen one before

Duck, Your buckle depicts an ancient mythological man or god tied to a running horse, being chased by wolves. I just can't seem to find out who the guy is, but a smarter TNet member may be able to narrow it down. There is a very similar bronze plaque for sale on the internet, obviously the same mythical man. This is an Art Nouveau era buckle depicting the story of Mazeppa - Mazeppa is the subject of a poem written by poet Lord Byron in 1819.

Buffalo Bill did perform the "Mazeppa Ride" as part of his Wild West show, and Mazeppa was a very popular theater production in the mid-late 1800's, your buckle could be American made and sold as a souvenir from such an event.
