I've seen that mark as well as a single black stripe down a stack or 4000 coins.

I'm getting SICK of seeing those 2 marks. I got a box that had the 2 marks on more than 80% of the coins.

They must circulate well because I see the same thing in Okieland. I've seen them with a read, blue, and black on the reeds of every coin. Not just one color. Kind of like the chart coding at a doctor's office.

hmm if sean is seeing them and I am in LA this is a nationwide player or coincidence?? ugh!

My opinion, is that this is just a BIG coincidence. Reason I say this is because I am relatively new to CRH'ing, and up until last week I have never marked my coins. So last week I decided I should if I am going to be CRH player. The mark I chose Is almost identical to the one you posted a pic of, i couldnt believe it when i saw your pic, I thought it was my mark. Then I realized that #1 i had only marked ONE box so far, and also my mark is a little different. With the other three comments, Im guessing I was not the only one with the idea of marking them like that, (even though I had never seen a mark like that until your pic tonight....)

i too see wwwwaaayyyy to many coins marked just like that! weird! Keep it up and hh! [R.I.P. Rich Hartford]

Ha! Funny thing is that I was just complaining to the Mrs. About these exact markings. Last 10 boxes were chock full of them and were from 3 different branches. These wouldn't happen to be from wells Fargo for you as well would they? Didn't start seeing hear annoying markings until this past week. But still found a few 40s here and there

I'm in Indiana, and I am seeing tons of halves with a single black stripe on the reeding. Some boxes have more than 50% that are marked like this.

What gives?

Well, I would say that the individual just wants to make sure that folks know that a roll has been checked already. Could save you a bit of time, and might be a good idea if everyone did something like this. Then again, might just be doing it to same himself/herself some time on their next box of coins.

I had two boxes with rolls with one marking black on the rims but not two.

I get the single stripe a lot. I also get some of SFBayArea's famous circles on the two middle numbers in the dates.

I started seeing some coins marked "Stu" on the reverse lately. I'm on the west coast. Does this belong to anyone on the board?

I got a couple coins with Stu marked recently. When I was down in San Diego a couple months ago, I saw the Stu mark for the first time. I thought it was a So. Cal thing until I got some up here. Strange how they circulate.

at least the markings on the edges does not damage the coin too bad for collectors like the marks I get in my area- black sharpie slashes/scribbles across both the obverse and reverse. I personally am against marking coins because someone else could appreciate them. I think it is dissapointing to see so many NIFC's damaged with marks in my area where if there were no mark it would be a mint luster coin and would go into someone's collection for sure.

I don't mark on NIFC's.. only on coins that are ugly beat up (ie casino coins) which have no numismatic value. The reasons for marking are:

1.) Keeping track of the dump-order system to ensure that you are not getting your own dumps back. It's essentially a test of the banking system and CRH system. I have gotten one box in my opinion that has a lot of my own dumps back.. other than that.. it seems to be working.

2.) Psycologically discourages new CRHers. Some new CRH's who get a skunk box with numerous marked coins will reconsider going knee deep into the hobby. I can see it as forum members get upset over marked coins when they get skunked boxes. However, no one complains when they get keepers along with the marked coins.. LOL

It could be those high-school kids that Brinks pays to sit at their hopper. They may require him to mark the coins as he culls the silver! Just a guess.

I found several in boxes picked up at Wells Fargo. I would think all these are not from the same person as it is very easy way to mark entire roll at once by having roll in your hand and drawing line all the way through it. (and yeah, I did crack a smile when I typed -" having roll in your hand".)
