Is This Hematite? Does It Look 'Used'?

Found this today in an area where I've also found flint chips. Is it hematite? My hands turned a lovely shade of burnt orange as I washed it off. Also note how smooth and rounded the edges are. Does it look like it has been used?

I thought hematite was metallic or black in color. It is really heavy for it's size, that is one way to rule it out/in, is by weight. am no expert, & am interested to see what info is posted.

It weighs nearly 3oz or between 75-80gm. There is black on/in the rock. The recently scratched area on the back shows a shiny blackish material.

It's hematite, it is degrading to just plain iron oxide, We call it indian paint out here in AZ. you can mix it with bacon fat, and make a pretty good natural paint, for the kids to play with.

Break up a new fresh surface so we can see what it looks like.
The out side shows the weathered surface and can fool you...

When you have broken up a fresh surface with i.e. a hammer you take a piece of unglazed porcelain and rub then against each other... What colour do you get?

Natural events can also round up a rock. Just look at Eskers.
Also in ancient river sediments rounded rocks are nothing rare, almost always found in Conglomerate.
