Is this rare?

I know it's chalcedony but are all these colors combined, also with some green fire make this rare? I ask because it's in the middle of nowhere where I found this and it's pain to get back to that spot with water ,sieve, digging tools etc, there's the root beer color too but in small pieces only, I think someone found this spot before me because there's chalcedony agate in larger pieces white, pink, blue, purple colors surrounding the small area with that stone in the photo and the root beer color. Basically is it worth carrying a couple gallons of water and digging tools a mile or so? No roads....

Hi. They are not common. They are low end gemstones as far as the price goes. Only big and unusual specimens can have a top end value. Pink color with fire in it would be something.

Thanks Moesia, I love being outdoors on my days off and I love to prospect, might as well make a little side money doing what I love ya know, not for gold too much anymore because after speed panning 30buckets and almost dying doing it lol, I had less than gram smh. I'm not expecting top dollar but I'm curious to what it sells for and if it sells? Doesn't the darker root beer color have the best colors?

Best color to have as a base is red, pink or green. They all must be pure transparent colors. Value comes from transparency, purity of base color and underlaying fire. Inclusions reduce value. Here are a few examples of price ranges.

As you see the ones that are polished are worth much more. It takes a lot of time to sell them and it is expensive to have them cut to increase value (defeats the purpose). Unless it is something of high size and purity with fire, you are not going to get much money. It is not easy to dig them out to. There is more to it, but it would be too long to write down in one post.

I'd definitely be collecting those. Maybe not to make money off of, but worth keeping in a collection. I'd be interested in collecting something like this as a representation of Chalcedony in my collection. These make great macro photos!

There's a lot of this stuff Oculus and it is fun to collect but I would have my own hill out back if I kept everthing lol, I was thinking by the pound $5 novelty to 100$gem quality a pound , not sell a stone by stone, I'll let someone else do the cutting and polishing. That way I always have an excuse to go out digging.
